NO nails, NO glue. NO problems.
What you should know about Elastilon Strong
Solid hardwood floors are loved by everyone, but nails and glue slow down the installation process. With the Elastilon Strong Self Adhesive Installation Membrane, installation time can be cut by up to 70%, it is clean and simple, both above and below grade - and there are virtually no call-backs.
Elastilon Strong creates continuous tension across the boards to help reduce gapping, warping or buckling which can typically occur with nailed or glued floors. This incredible strength is created with the combination of the high shear strength of the polyethylene foam (50kg/m3 ) and the unique nylon grid network imbedded in the super strength resin layer. It’s why Elastilon comes with a lifetime warranty!
Elastilon Strong provides the first easy, quick solution for installing solid hardwood floors (prefinished or unfinished) from 5/16" to as thick as 1", on a concrete slab, including newly poured (at least 60days old and up to 3.9% moisture content), without the need for traditional subfloor constructions. (an approved vapor barrier of at least 6mil PE must always be used on all below grade concrete installations and on all concrete applications above grade that have not been tested for required moisture levels)
- Elastilon Strong is ideal for those hardwood species that have moderate to high expansion/contraction characteristics and works particularly well with all exotic species including bamboo products. Elastilon Strong also simplifies the installation of engineered wood floor and can be used over any existing wood floor, as well as vinyl sheet or tile, and ceramics. (floor must meet installation flatness requirements)
- Elastilon Strong’s permanently elastic cross-linked, closed-cell polyethylene self adhesive membrane solves the issue of solid hardwood not being structurally stable on a concrete slab. The patented non-toxic peel-and-stick upper surface bonds directly with the hardwood, creating a solid, inseparable floor. While sealing the underside of the floor, Elastilon Strong allows for natural expansion and contraction inherent in hardwood floors with humidity changes. This helps to greatly reduce cupping.
- Elastilon Strong provides cushioned comfort under foot, and reduces both airborne and impact sound transmission.
- Elastilon Strong is ideal for challenging home environments such as basements, kitchens and even bathrooms when appropriate humidity and temperature conditions are maintained and installation guidelines are followed. It can be used with under-floor heating systems (follow the flooring manufacturer’s guidelines).
- An Elastilon Strong installation is a trouble-free solution for all hardwood flooring installations, with very few service call-backs, and Elastilon carries a lifetime warranty.
Resources-What you should know about Elastilon Strong
Here is an example of the great subjects you can learn about in our Installation Q & A document:
How do I install long or short length boards? Will there be a concern with bowed boards?
The Elastilon Strong Self Adhesive Installation Membrane has been engineered to work with many species of wood flooring. It is important that the manufacturers / industry recommendations be followed before, during and after the installation in regards to both room conditions and site preparation. The Elastilon instructions must be closely followed as well.
Remember as you build the floor on the protective release strip, you will have the choice to change or move boards so that the fit is to your liking. Elastilon can be used with long length (8 foot) as well as short length (12 inch) boards. Be sure to follow the manufacturers’ recommendations in terms of mixing floor boards to optimize the look and strength of the floor. Once you are satisfied with the presentation of the floor remove the protective release strip and move on to the next section.
It is also important to visually inspect each piece of wood flooring before being installed. As with any other type of installation method, Elastilon cannot compensate for flooring that is severely bowed, warped, cupped or damaged prior to an installation. However, most boards may be used if the defective section is cut and removed with the remainder of the board used as a start or end piece, used in a closet or low traffic area or used in a concealed portion of the room.
During the racking ( building) of the floor on top of the Elastilon release strip, flooring that is not severely bowed can be installed as long as it can still be inserted into the T&G of the boards surrounding it. This will pull the board straight and allow full contact on the Elastilon membrane. Be sure to place a small amount of carpenters glue on all four sides of the affected board for a concern free installation.
